Au revoir les enfants
Acceptable with guidance. Age: 13+. A Catholic review of this movie for parents.
Our review
A priest hides three Jewish boys in his school and pays for it with his life. The film shows that quietly, through a child's eyes, with no speeches. It is a true picture of Catholic courage under the Nazis. The reservation: these are real schoolboys, so expect coarse talk, sexual curiosity, and one boy humiliated by a Gestapo search.
For parents
For teens fourteen and up, watched with a parent. Younger children are not ready for the ending or the boys' crude talk. Ask: why did Father Jean risk the school for three boys? What made Joseph betray them? What would courage have looked like for Julien?
