Blueberries for Sal

1948 ยท Robert McCloskey ยท Picture book

Acceptable. Age: 6+. A Catholic review of this book for parents.

Our review

Little Sal and her mother go to pick blueberries on a hill. A baby bear and its mother are there too. Sal and the little bear follow the wrong mothers by mistake, but soon each one finds its own mother again. A quiet, funny story with just enough suspense for preschoolers. Nothing to correct.

For parents

Age 6+, set by Lumen's read-alone age. Read aloud from 3; Common Sense Media says 4 and up, the publisher 2 to 4. Ask why it matters to stay close to Mom. Ask what we gather and save for winter, and how we can share it.
