Our review
This true story is about two football players on the Chicago Bears. Gale Sayers is Black and Brian Piccolo is white, and they become roommates and best friends. When Brian gets cancer, Gale stands by him until the end. It is a short, clean, deeply moving film about friendship across a racial line and a good death faced with courage. The one age is 10, set by Common Sense Media; it is rated G per Common Sense Media, and no Catholic classification was found.
For parents
One age: 10, set by Common Sense Media. The film is rated G, and no Catholic classification was found. Content is light: Common Sense Media notes a sad death of a main character, some social drinking, and use of the N-word. Parent Previews grades it A- overall. The death of Brian Piccolo is the hard part for younger children. Talk about it: Why did Gale ask a whole room to pray for his friend? What makes a friend stay when things get hard? What did Halas mean that Brian is remembered for how he lived?
