Buddy

2026 · Casper Kelly · Horror comedy

Not recommended. A Catholic review of this movie for parents.

Our review

This is a warning. Buddy looks like a kids' show with a singing unicorn, but it is a bloody R-rated horror comedy. Children are stabbed and killed on screen, a child is attacked with a knife, kids are fed drugged flowers, and children swear and sing a profane song. A mother's sacrifice is the one real good. The film plays the murder of children for dark laughs and ends in gloom.

For parents

If your child is asking to see Buddy, the answer is no. It is not a children's movie. Common Sense Media says 16 and up, and Lumen says adults only. Tell your child why: the unicorn kills children, and the film treats it as a joke. Ask: why would someone make something scary look friendly? What did Grace do for the children?
