California Schemin'
Caution. Age: 18+. A Catholic review of this movie for parents.
Our review
A lively true story about two friends who fake American accents to break into rap. The film shows the lie as a trap: it strains their friendship, feeds one friend's addiction and nearly costs the other his girlfriend. The reservations are plain. The language is heavy, drugs and a straying partner are part of the picture, and the early scheme is played as fun. Provisional until more reviews arrive.
For parents
Age 18, set by Lumen's call; the R rating sets 17. Not for children. Heavy profanity, drug use and implied cheating. Talk it over with an older teen. Ask: why did lying feel easier than being themselves? What did it cost the friends? The Catechism says lying undermines trust between people (CCC 2486).
