Our review

John Midas is a boy who gets a magic gift, and everything his lips touch turns into chocolate. Now he will find out if you can have too much of your favorite food. It is a fun fable about wanting too much of a good thing, which fits the virtue of temperance. Age 7+, set by Lumen's read-alone age; no Common Sense Media or publisher age was found.

For parents

Age 7+, set by Lumen's read-alone age. No Common Sense Media or publisher age was found. Read it aloud from 6. One brief scare: John kisses his mother and turns her into a chocolate statue. He is sorry, begs for her to be restored, and she is. The magic is a fable device, like the old Midas story. Talk about gluttony, saying no to ourselves, and being truly sorry.
