Come to the Stable

1949 · Henry Koster · Comedy-drama

Recommended. Age: 6+. A Catholic review of this movie for parents.

Our review

Sister Margaret made a vow under fire in Normandy, and the film is about keeping it. The sisters pray first, ask boldly and trust God for the rest, and hard hearts soften around them. It is gentle, funny and good for the whole family. The reservation is small: a bet on a tennis match is part of the plot, and a bookmaker is a friendly figure.

For parents

Good for ages seven and up, and a fine Advent or Christmas pick. Younger children may find it slow. Ask: what did Sister Margaret promise God, and why does she keep it? How do the sisters treat people who say no to them?
