Acceptable with guidance. Age: 10+. A Catholic review of this movie for parents.

Our review

A stop-motion fairy tale about a girl who learns what real love is worth. The false Other Mother offers a perfect world and wants Coraline's eyes and her freedom. Coraline walks away and fights for her family. The goods are gratitude and courage. The reservation is fear: this is horror for children, with a child-killing witch, ghost children and a helpful seeing stone.

For parents

Age 10+, set by Lumen; Common Sense Media says 9+. This PG film is too intense for many younger children, so preview it. Talk about the tea leaves and the stone: we do not look to such things for the future (CCC 2116). Ask: why was the Other Mother's love false?
