Hocus Pocus
Caution. Age: 12+. A Catholic review of this movie for parents.
Our review
A campy Halloween comedy: three witches who drain children's life force come back to Salem and three kids stop them. The goods are real, a brother who protects his little sister and a boy who learns to listen. The reservations are the playful occult (spell book, black flame candle, the dead raised) and virgin jokes in a film marketed to children.
For parents
Age 12+, set by Lumen. Common Sense Media says 10+. Preview it and name the occult plainly for younger fans. Ask: why are the Sandersons funny and still wrong? What did Max and Dani learn about each other? Scripture forbids spells and calling up the dead (Deuteronomy 18:10-12; CCC 2116-2117).
