Holes
Acceptable with guidance. Age: 11+. A Catholic review of this movie for parents.
Our review
Stanley is sent to a desert camp for a crime he did not do. The boys there must dig holes all day. Stanley makes a true friend named Zero, keeps a promise, and helps set things right. Parents should frame two things: the family curse from a fortune teller, and a flashback where a mob kills a Black man and the woman who loved him turns outlaw. Our age is 11 and up, set by Common Sense Media, since no Catholic classification was found.
For parents
Our age is 11 and up, set by Common Sense Media's 11+ (MPA rated PG). No bishops' classification was found. Expect guns at kids, a mob killing in flashback, a woman who dies by letting a lizard bite her, and God's name misused almost ten times per Plugged In. Ask: is a curse real, or does God guide our lives? Why did keeping a promise matter so much? How did Stanley show loyalty to Zero?
