Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey
Acceptable. Age: 6+. A Catholic review of this movie for parents.
Our review
Two dogs and a cat think their family left them behind. They walk a long way through the mountains to get home. They stay together, help each other, and never give up. This is a funny, sweet adventure about loyalty and love of home. The old dog Shadow leads the way, and the young dog Chance learns what it means to belong to a family. The one age is 6, set by Common Sense Media (MPA G carries no age, and no Catholic classification was found). Expect animal peril with a mountain lion, a porcupine and a waterfall, a cat who seems lost, and some potty-mouthed name-calling.
For parents
Good for six and up, set by Common Sense Media; the film is rated G and no OSV News classification was found. Nothing sexual is shown beyond the family wedding. The scary parts are animal peril: a mountain lion, a porcupine, Sassy swept over a waterfall, and Shadow trapped in a muddy pit. Small children may worry the cat has died, but she lives. The pets trade rude words like butt sniffers, puke and stupid, so you may want to talk about kind speech. Ask: why does Shadow keep going? How does Chance change? Why do the animals protect the lost girl? What makes a family worth coming home to?
