Our review
Jean Valjean steals from a kind bishop. The bishop forgives him and tells him to live a good life. Valjean changes, but the police inspector Javert will not stop hunting him. The one age is 18, set by the CNS A-III classification; Common Sense Media says 14+ and the MPAA rating is PG-13. It is a great story about mercy. Parents should know about Fantine's fall and Javert's suicide.
For parents
One age: 18, set by the Catholic News Service A-III classification (Common Sense Media says 14+, MPAA PG-13). Content: Fantine sells her hair, teeth and body and is used by a client, brothel scenes, barricade battle deaths including a child, Javert's suicide, drinking, and some mild language with one strong curse. Talk about it: Why did the bishop lie for Valjean? How does mercy change Valjean? Why can Javert not accept being forgiven? Why is Fantine's story sad and not glamorous?
