Our review

A girl in Hawaii adopts a strange blue "dog" named Stitch. He is really an alien who was made to wreck things. Lilo teaches him that family means nobody gets left behind. This is a warm film about a broken family that holds together. Stitch is made to destroy and learns to love, and two orphaned sisters fight to stay together. Nothing here needs correcting. The one age is 13, set by the USCCB's A-II; Common Sense Media says 6+. Expect cartoon chases, laser fire, an explosion that wrecks the house, and a near-drowning.

For parents

One age: 13, set by the USCCB's A-II rating (Common Sense Media says 6+, MPAA PG). Many families will judge younger children ready; the A-II is the strictest source, so it sets the number. Expect lots of non-lethal cartoon action, explosions and laser fire, a girl who punches and bites a classmate, and characters dragged underwater (Common Sense Media). Lilo nearly drowns while surfing (Wikipedia). Lilo's parents died before the story starts. Talk about it: What does 'ohana' mean? How does Nani sacrifice for Lilo? Can someone made for harm learn to be good?
