The Little Engine That Could
Recommended. Age: 5+. A Catholic review of this book for parents.
Our review
A train full of good things for children breaks down by a big mountain. The big engines will not help, but a little engine says yes. It keeps saying "I think I can" and pulls the train over the top. The proud engines refuse and the small one serves, which is a real lesson in humility and generosity. Perseverance gets the spotlight.
For parents
Age 5+, set by Lumen's read-alone age; Common Sense Media says 3 and up. Read it aloud from 3. Ask why the big engines said no. Ask why the little one said yes. Then add what the book leaves out: we try hard, and we also ask God to help.
