Lola Dutch
Acceptable. Age: 6+. A Catholic review of this book for parents.
Our review
A sweet, airy picture book about a girl whose joy spills over into everything she does. Nothing here works against the faith, and the nods to Monet and Michelangelo can open a child's eyes to beauty. The one reservation is thin: the story keeps calling Lola too much, and gives no picture of saying thank you or helping clean up.
For parents
Read aloud from 4. A child can read it alone from about 6. Kirkus puts it at 4 to 6. Show your child the real Creation of Adam and tell them who painted it, and for whom. Ask what Lola could do to thank Bear for all his help.
