Mary of Nazareth
Acceptable with guidance. Age: 13+. A Catholic review of this movie for parents.
Our review
This is the story of Mary, the mother of Jesus, from when she was a little girl. An angel tells her she will be the mother of God's Son, and she says yes. She stays close to Jesus all his life, even at the cross, and sees him risen again. It is reverent and lovely, but it makes Mary Magdalene a court prostitute and the woman caught in adultery, which the Gospels never say.
For parents
Ages 13 and up, set by CNS A-II. CNS calls the slaughter of the innocents and the Passion graphic, even harrowing, which pre-teens might find upsetting. Explain that the Gospels never call Mary Magdalene a prostitute or the adulteress. Ask what Mary's yes teaches us.
