Our review

The Minions become movie stars in old Hollywood, then lose their jobs. Three Minion friends want to make a monster movie, so they use a wizard's magic book to call up monsters. One monster tricks them and almost wrecks the world, and the friends have to fix it together. It is fast and funny, with loyal friends. But the heroes light candles, read from a dead warlock's spellbook and call up monsters, all played as a joke. In the credits the book lands with little Agnes. Calling up spirits is not a game, so Lumen does not recommend it. Age 8, set by Lumen, a year over Common Sense Media's 7+.

For parents

Age 8, set by Lumen (Common Sense Media says 7+). Content is mild: slapstick, bare Minion bottoms and one 'bastard.' The summoning is the issue, so watch together and talk after. Ask: why did calling up the monsters go so wrong? Why does the Church tell us never to try to call up spirits?
