Our review
In 1980 Coach Herb Brooks picks a team of college hockey players to play in the Olympics. He pushes them very hard to beat the strong Soviet team. They learn to play as one team. It is a stirring true story about sacrifice, teamwork and discipline. The one age is 8, set by Common Sense Media (PG). The main thing to know is language: dozens of mild swears and a few misuses of God's name.
For parents
One age: 8, set by Common Sense Media (PG). No Church rating found. Language is the main issue. Plugged In counts more than 30 mild profanities and about six misuses of God's name; Kids-In-Mind logs 24 mild obscenities and 4 religious exclamations. Violence is hockey roughness, a fistfight between two players on the ice, a bloody nose, and a coach throwing a table in anger. Players drink beer at a bar and a Christmas party. A joke gift of panties and comments about women in the stands are mild. Players are shown bare-chested in locker rooms. Some players pray during the final game. Brooks is harsh and a flawed father figure. Ask: Was Brooks right to push so hard? What did the players give up for the team?
