The Miracle of Marcelino (Marcelino Pan y Vino)

1955 · Ladislao Vajda · Religious drama

Recommended. Age: 6+. A Catholic review of this movie for parents.

Our review

A small boy feeds a hungry Christ, and Christ feeds him back with Himself. That is the whole film, and it is one of the purest pictures of childlike faith on screen. Bread and wine carry quiet Eucharistic meaning. The one reservation is the ending. Marcelino dies in the arms of Jesus, and a young child may need help with that.

For parents

Best for children about seven and up, watched with a parent. Subtitles or a dub may be needed. Prepare little ones for the ending. Ask: why did Marcelino bring Jesus his food? What does Jesus give us at Mass under bread and wine? Why is heaven a happy ending?
