Monsieur Vincent
Recommended. Age: All ages. A Catholic review of this movie for parents.
Our review
Pierre Fresnay's Vincent is a saint already far along the road, and the film shows what deepening holiness looks like. He loves the poor without flattering them and begs from the rich without despising them. The scene where he takes a galley slave's place at the oar says everything. One reservation: the story compresses a huge life, so some episodes feel cut short.
For parents
Classified for all ages, though Decent Films says teens and up because of a fleeting war montage with a glimpse of rape, nothing explicit. Ask: why does Vincent tell the young sister the poor must forgive her the bread she gives them? Discuss seeing Christ in the poor (CCC 2449).
