Our review

Mike Wazowski has always dreamed of being a scarer. At Monsters University he meets Sulley, who is a natural but lazy. The two rivals must work together to win a big contest. It is a warm college comedy about hard work, teamwork and telling the truth after you cheat. The one age is 5, set by Common Sense Media; the Catholic rating is A-I and the MPAA says G. Expect mild bullying, a scary dean, and a brief scare when a kid's cabin is invaded.

For parents

One age: 5, set by Common Sense Media (Catholic News Service A-I, MPAA G). CNS calls it clean, wholesome family fun. Common Sense notes mild bullying, a brief scary paddling scene, a frightening dean, red party cups and a drinking-game gag, and one kiss between two characters who get engaged. Talk about it: Why was Sulley's cheating wrong even though he meant to help? Why did he confess? Does hard work matter more than talent? Note that the plot has the monsters frighten real children by design.
