Our review

An English mother keeps her family strong during a war. Her son becomes a pilot and gets married. When sad things happen, the whole village prays together in their broken church. This is a warm, brave family film about ordinary people holding together under the bombs. It honors marriage, courage and common prayer, and it ends in church. The one age is 12, set by Common Sense Media, which is stricter than Lumen's own call of 6. The film is not MPA rated and no Catholic classification was found. Expect air raids, a tense scene with an enemy pilot the death of a young bride, a plane crashing in flames, and lots of period drinking and smoking.

For parents

The one age is 12, set by Common Sense Media. Lumen's own call is 6 with a parent, but we show the stricter number. The film is not MPA rated and no Catholic classification was found. Younger children may be frightened by the bombing and saddened by Carol's death, so stay close. Characters smoke and drink often, and one is briefly drunk. The church is Anglican, which is a good chance to explain the Catholic Church and our separated brothers. Notice Kay's mercy: she feeds the enemy pilot even while she holds him for the police. Ask: how did the family stay brave? Why did the village go to church after the bombs? How can we pray for people in war today?
