Orangutan

2026 · Vanessa Berlowitz, Mark Linfield · Nature documentary

Acceptable. Age: 6+. A Catholic review of this movie for parents.

Our review

A gentle, funny film about a mother's patient care and a young ape growing up. The camera work lets children marvel at what God made, though God is never named. The danger is mild and quick, and the talk of mating stays light. Two lines call orangutans our cousins, which is a science aside, not a message. An easy choice for a family night.

For parents

Good for families with children 6 and up, the age Common Sense Media gives. Sensitive little ones may need a hand during the tiger chase. Ask: how did Indah's mother teach her? What makes us different from orangutans? Who made the rainforest, and how can we take care of it?
