Our review

A farmer packs his ox-cart with everything his family made and grew that year. He walks to the market in Portsmouth and sells it all, even the ox and the cart. Then he buys what his family needs and walks home, and they start making things again. It shows honest work, thrift and a family that labors together through the seasons. Nothing in it needs correcting. Age 6+, set by Lumen's read-alone age; Puffin says 2 to 5, so read it aloud from 3.

For parents

Age 6+, set by Lumen's read-alone age; Puffin says 2 to 5. Read it aloud from 3. Some children are sad when the father sells the ox, so be ready to talk about it. Ask what each person in the family made, and what your family makes together. It is a good start for talks about work and saving.
