Padre Pio: Miracle Man

2000 · Carlo Carlei · Saint biography, TV miniseries

Acceptable with guidance. Age: 13+. A Catholic review of this show for parents.

Our review

Sergio Castellitto plays Padre Pio across fifty years as a friar, and reviewers single out his performance. The film shows the stigmata as a share in the Cross and shows obedience under unjust suspicion. One reservation: it is a dramatization with invented scenes and intense demonic attacks, so preview it and keep a good biography nearby.

For parents

For teens and adults. It runs well over three hours, so watch it in two nights. Preview the devil scenes before showing younger teens. Ask: why did Padre Pio obey when the restrictions seemed unjust? What does his suffering have to do with the Cross?
