Our review

C. S. Lewis is a quiet professor in England. He meets Joy, an American writer, and she changes his life. When she gets sick, he must face his own faith. The one age is 13, set by Lumen on its adult themes; Common Sense Media says 10+ and the MPAA rating is PG. It is a moving film about love and suffering. Parents should talk about Joy's divorce and the civil marriage.

For parents

One age: 13, set by Lumen's own call on the adult themes of grief and divorce (Common Sense Media says 10+, MPAA PG). Common Sense lists some drinking and smoking, a broken leg, a death from cancer, two brief kisses, and mild language. Talk about it: Why did Lewis say yes to a civil marriage for a visa, and was that right? What does the Church teach about marriage after divorce? How does Lewis's faith hold up when Joy dies, and what does he learn about suffering?
