Our review
Aslan sends Jill and Eustace to Narnia to find a lost prince. He gives them four Signs to follow, and with a gloomy but brave Marsh-wiggle named Puddleglum they journey deep under the earth. There they must face a wicked witch who wants to rule Narnia. A beautiful story about holding on to faith in the dark, Recommended. Age 10, set by Lumen's own read-alone age.
For parents
Age 10, set by Lumen's own read-alone age (no Common Sense Media book age or publisher age found; Plugged In says 8 and up; Seton places it at junior high level). Read it aloud from 7. Bullies torment Jill and Eustace at school. Giants plan to eat the children. The witch turns into a serpent and is killed by beheading. Puddleglum burns his own foot to break her spell. There is one mild curse word, wine with meals, a pipe, and Puddleglum pretending to be drunk. Ask: why did the children miss the Signs? How do we keep God's words in mind?
