Our review
Snow White is a kind princess. A jealous queen wants to hurt her, so she hides in the woods with seven dwarfs. The queen tricks her with a poisoned apple, but love wakes her up in the end. This is the first Disney feature and still one of the best. Goodness is lovely here and evil is ugly, and no one confuses the two. The magic belongs to the storybook world, and all the dark magic belongs to the villain. The Queen's scenes are scary for small children.

Rated G. Decent Films says Kids & Up with the caveat of some frightening sequences. Common Sense Media says 6+. The Queen orders the Huntsman to kill Snow White and bring back her heart in a box. Snow White runs through a dark forest that seems to grab at her. The Queen brews a potion and changes into an old hag, and her workshop has skeletons. She dies in a fall from a cliff in a storm. Under-fives may need a lap or a later year. Tell your children that the Queen's spells are a picture of what envy does to a soul. Ask: why did the Huntsman disobey the Queen, and was he right? Why is Snow White kind even to Grumpy? Common Sense Media objects to the Prince kissing a sleeping girl. In the story the kiss is the cure for the Sleeping Death, not a liberty.
