Supergirl

2026 · Craig Gillespie · Superhero action (DC Studios)

Caution. Age: 18+. A Catholic review of this movie for parents.

Our review

Supergirl tells a grieving girl that revenge will corrupt her, then kills the defeated villain herself with the girl's sword. That climax cancels the film's best lesson, as OSV News also says. Along the way the heroine drinks to forget, tortures captives and swears often. Courage and loyalty are real here, and she does sober up, but vengeance ends up looking heroic.

For parents

For adults, per the OSV News A-III; Common Sense Media says 12+. Expect a family slaughter, a sex-trafficking plot, about 15 s-words and heavy drinking. Afterward, ask: Kara told Ruthye not to kill, so why did she do it herself? What does Romans 12:19 say about vengeance?
