Our review
A mother cat named Duchess and her three kittens live with a rich lady in Paris. The greedy butler wants the lady's money, so he takes the cats far away and leaves them. An alley cat named Thomas O'Malley helps them get back home. It is a cheerful, musical film about kindness and loyalty. Two things need a word from you: a goose who is drunk for laughs and a Chinese cat drawn as an old racial joke. The one age is 4, set by Common Sense Media (4+); the MPAA says G and no Catholic classification was found.
For parents
One age: 4, set by Common Sense Media (4+). The MPAA rating is G and we found no Catholic classification. Per Common Sense Media, the butler drugs the cats with sleeping pills and abandons them, there are chase scenes with a pitchfork, and a goose staggers out drunk for laughs. Plugged In suggests talking about that goose, since drunkenness is no joke. Wikipedia and Common Sense both note that the Siamese cat in the jazz band is drawn as a racist stereotype of East Asian people; Disney+ now hides the film from profiles under 7. Talk about it: Why was Edgar's greed wrong? How does Duchess teach her kittens to be kind? Why is it unkind to laugh at a whole people by how they look?
