The Bear
Caution. Age: 18+. A Catholic review of this show for parents.
Our review
A fine portrait of work done with love, of grief carried together, and of a rough crew that becomes a family. The final season ends on hope, with the restaurant saved and people reconciled. The reservation is heavy: dozens of f-words an episode, God's and Jesus' names misused, constant smoking and drinking, and a brother's suicide that hangs over everything.
For parents
For adults. The profanity is relentless and the suicide theme is heavy. Ask: what makes this crew a family? How does Carmy learn to let others help him? Speak plainly about suicide: life is God's gift, despair can be answered, and God's mercy is wide (CCC 2280-2283). If anyone is struggling, call or text 988.
