The End of Oak Street

2026 · David Robert Mitchell · Sci-fi family adventure thriller

Not recommended. A Catholic review of this movie for parents.

Our review

A clever, warm-hearted creature feature about a fraying marriage healed under pressure, with real sacrifice for others. But the film quietly builds a romance between the teen daughter and the girl the family takes in, and frames it as something sweet to root for. Faith gets brushed aside by the characters we like. Add gory deaths and coarse language, and it is not one to hand your teens.

For parents

Not recommended. If your teen has seen it, talk it through. Ask: what did Greg and Denise give up for each other and their kids? Then be clear: friendship between girls is good (CCC 2347), but the film approves a romance outside God's plan for love (CCC 2357-2359). Every person deserves respect. Ask why the characters thought prayer did not matter.
