The King's Speech
Acceptable with guidance. Age: 18+. A Catholic review of this movie for parents.
Our review
A prince cannot speak without getting stuck on his words. A kind teacher helps him. When he becomes king, he must give a big speech on the radio as war begins. This is a fine film about humility, friendship and duty. The problem is language. In two scenes the King swears again and again as a therapy exercise. The one age is 18, set by the USCCB's A-III classification.
For parents
Best for adults. The one age is 18, set by the USCCB's A-III classification. The MPA rated it R and Common Sense Media says 14+. Know the swearing is the strongest kind and comes in bursts. Tell older teens the film treats cursing as a tool, and that is not how we speak. Talk about Bertie's courage, Logue's patience and Elizabeth's faithful love. Ask: what weakness would you be willing to work on, even if it is humbling?
