Our review

Emmet is an ordinary Lego construction worker who is mistaken for a great hero. He joins a band of master builders to stop Lord Business from gluing the world in place. In the end we learn a real boy and his dad are playing with the Legos, and they make peace. It is clever, fast and warm, and the ending is about a father learning to play with his son. The one age is 6, set by Common Sense Media (6+), with the Catholic News Service at A-I and the MPAA at PG.

For parents

One age: 6, set by Common Sense Media; Catholic News Service rated it A-I and the MPAA PG. Expect lots of Lego gunfire, explosions and characters 'beheaded,' all toy mayhem with no blood (Common Sense Media). Language is mild: dang it, darn, stupid. The wizard Vitruvius admits he made up the prophecy, and his spirit tells Emmet that believing in himself is what makes him special (Wikipedia). Correct that gently. We are special because God made and loves us, not because we believe it. Catholic News Service noted the phrase 'the man upstairs' could be heard as God as a tyrant; point out that in the film the man upstairs is simply Finn's dad, and that he changes his heart. Ask: what did the dad have to give up to make peace with his son?
