Our review
Charlie Brown thinks he fails at everything. He wants the new girl in class, the Little Red-Haired Girl, to notice him. He keeps trying even when things go wrong, and he stays kind and honest the whole time. Snoopy has his own adventure chasing the Red Baron in the sky. This is about as clean as a modern family film gets. Greydanus found nothing to warn about. The hero is good without being cool, and he keeps being good when it costs him. Expect only pretend dogfights, pratfalls, and a few words like 'stupid' and 'blockhead.'
For parents
G, and Common Sense Media says four and up. Greydanus at Decent Films says Kids & Up and lists nothing problematic. Things to know: Snoopy's flying ace daydreams have dogfights, bullets, storms and crashes. There are many pratfalls with kites, sleds and hockey. Lucy yells and insults. Common Sense Media counts a couple of uses each of 'stupid' and 'blockhead,' plus 'dumb.' The children have puppy-love crushes and Snoopy kisses Lucy. Charlie Brown calls himself a failure and says 'I'm nothing,' which is worth talking about with a sensitive child. One scene has him wishing on a star for comfort. Ask: why do the other kids end up liking Charlie Brown? Is it better to win or to be honest? Who really tells us what we are worth?
