Our review
This Japanese anime from Netflix is about courage after terrible loss. Sapphire grieves, keeps going, makes new friends and risks herself to protect them. The battles are stylized, not bloody, but a friend dies and the grief is real. One thing to watch: a religious leader called the Pope urges everyone not to resist the monster, and the story treats him as an obstacle.
For parents
For kids ten and up, as Common Sense Media says. The loss of Sapphire's parents and a friend's death may upset younger children. Explain that the film's Pope is made up, and that real faith gives courage to resist evil. Ask: what helped Sapphire keep going? Who was a true friend to her?
