The Year of Miss Agnes
Acceptable with guidance. Age: 8+. A Catholic review of this book for parents.
Our review
A short, gentle book about what a good teacher can do. Miss Agnes is patient, never punishes, and treats a deaf child no one else would teach as worth every effort. That is charity in plain clothes. God is not part of the story as the sources describe it. The reservation: no content review exists, and one reader says native spirituality appears, so read it first.
For parents
Read aloud from 7, independent reading from 8. The publisher says 8 to 12 and Kirkus says 9 to 11. It is short and clean as far as reviews describe it. Ask why Miss Agnes worked so hard to teach Bokko. Ask who taught you something you thought you could not learn, and thank God for them.
