Whalefall
Caution. Age: 14+. A Catholic review of this movie for parents.
Our review
A tense survival story with a real heart: a son and a hard father reach for forgiveness. The reservation is serious. The father, sick with cancer, chooses to drown himself, and no review we read says the film calls it wrong. He later comforts his son like a spirit guide. Faith appears only as the Jonah image.
For parents
For teens who like survival thrillers. Talk first: was the father's choice right, and what could he have done instead? Remind them that suicide is never the answer and that every life is a gift (CCC 2280-2283). Peril, whale gore and one F-word. Age 14+, set by Lumen.
